8 July 2020
Following ECAG’s nomination of the Eltham War Memorial Buildings for inclusion in the Victorian Heritage Register, we were disappointed that the Executive Director of Heritage Victoria made a recommendation that the buildings should not be included.
The Executive Director’s recommendation notes that in several areas that the buildings are important at local level but not of significance at State level.
We, along with many in the community, do not agree with this recommendation and believe the buildings are of enough significance to merit inclusion in the Heritage Register.
At this stage, the Executive Director’s recommendation is just that, a recommendation. Members of the public can make a submission to the Heritage Council, who will be making the final decision, as to why the memorial buildings deserve heritage listing.
There are less than two weeks remaining to make a submission before the closing date of 20 July.
If you would like to make a submission you can access the ED’s recommendation in full here.
