Council Elections in Eltham Wards

To determine which candidates in the three Eltham wards ECAG might consider supporting to be entrusted with our shire for the next 4 years, we sent a short series of questions to all Edendale, Swipers Gully and Wingrove candidates for whom an email address was available.

We asked these candidates a range of questions around the issues of development, tree protection, environment & biodiversity.

Based on the responses we received, the committee decided upon candidates from the three Eltham wards who appeared to be most closely aligned with ECAG’s aims and values.

We would therefore recommend the following as preferred candidates.

Edendale

Alex Grimes

With 30 plus years as an Eltham resident and currently working in his family’s small, local, multi-generational business, Alex has deep roots in the community. His responses to our questions show his commitment to protecting the Green Wedge, Nillumbik’s biodiversity and tree canopy. Alex aims to ensure appropriate development alongside protecting tree canopy, improving safe public transport and road, cycling and walking infrastructure which we believe will make him a fine Edendale councillor.

Swipers Gully

Kate McKay

Kate has rooted herself deeply in our community during her time in Eltham through her involvement in many local organisations. Kate’s responses to our questions shows she aims to balance appropriate housing with maintaining neighbourhood character and strengthening tree canopy protection and enhancement. Giving Swipers Gully residents a voice is very important to Kate and we believe she will be an excellent representative for her local community.

Wingrove

John Dumaresq

John was an independent and community focused councillor between 2016 2020, strongly supporting neighbourhood character and our natural environment. John’s answers to our questions show his commitment to neighbourhood character, protection of the tree canopy and appropriate development. We believe his experience as a previous councillor, his longstanding status as an Eltham resident and his deep roots in local organisations will make him an excellent choice for Wingrove.
